Plant for Oneida Community Co Ltd

  • Oneida, NY
  • Architect: Theo. H. Skinner (?)
  • June 1905

One of several jobs known only from the listing in the FBG advertisement in the 1909 Sweet's Catalogue. No details have been discovered.

The Oneida community was a religious commune with principles of equality and collective goals. When the community finally disbanded after some 40 years, many of its members continued its core industry, silverware and silverplate. Oneida flatware and silverware is still among the best to be found.

Architect Theodore Skinner, with whom FBG worked on several projects beginning with the Lowell Laboratory, was a member of the Oneida community and is noted in the August 1905 FBG org chart as being connected with job 388 in Oneida. A book notice of 1910 identifies him as the engineer for Oneida Community Ltd.
